Introduction
In accordance with the vision of the University of Jeddah, the modern Saudi university, and in line with the Ministry of Education's directives regarding research and innovation related to the national research priorities of the Research, Development and Innovation Authority, and in light of the Ministry's aspiration to focus on applied and innovative research and benefit from international cooperation within research programs that gradually progress from discovery, development, and ultimately end in commercialization.
Therefore, the Deanship of Research and Innovation has developed research support programs to support faculty members to enhance the status of the university and to achieve its vision. Accordingly, the Deanship announces the launch of a variety of advanced programs to support the capabilities of faculty members and students in their research.
General Objectives of the Research Programs
The Deanship of Research and Innovation has established general objectives for the research programs as follows:
- Building strategic research partnerships and an incubating environment for this sustainable partnership.
- Producing knowledge that is innovative, industrially applicable and contributes to the national economy.
- Supporting researchers to conduct scientific research and developing the research capabilities of faculty members.
- Enhancing the environment and potential of scientific research to find attractive opportunities to support excellence, creativity and innovation.
- Raising the research and scientific efficiency of faculty members and students at the University of Jeddah by increasing international contact with international scholars.
- Raising the publishing rate of faculty members at the university in scientific and high-impact international journals.
- Qualifying students with research skills and advanced scientific techniques, integrating the culture and values of scientific research, preparing them to make meaningful contributions to society and their respective fields.
General Regulations for Research Programs
- Support will be provided to projects directed to the national research priorities (especially the university’s research focus area), with an explanation of this relation in the designated section. (National Priorities Link)
- Support will be prioritised for projects by faculty members who have received external funding, those who have not previously received funding, and projects that do not involve researchers with delayed projects ( 3 years past the contract signing date).
- The project duration is 18 months (one and a half years) from the date of receipt of the first payment, and the second payment is only be disbursed if the project is closed during the project duration.
- It is allowed to apply a maximum of once as the Principal Investigator and once as a co-investigator.
- The project presenter must be from within the University of Jeddah at the rank of Assistant Professor or above.
- The number of research team members (including consultants) should not exceed more than half the members from outside Saudi Arabia.
- It is not allowed to waive a project previously supported by the university to participate in these programs with the same project.
- The project idea should not be supported or submitted to obtain support from any party or project supported internally or externally in the past, and if this occurs, all submitted proposals will be rejected.
- The project must be original and pass a plagiarism detection test with a percentage not exceeding 15%.
- The principal investigator of the project must be the first author of the published article. The corresponding author must be a member of the project's research team and affiliated with the University of Jeddah.
- It is not allowed to add new authors to the project, nor is it permitted to modify an approved project.
- Commitment to use the official address of the university (University of Jeddah) and the official university email (example@uj.edu.sa), provided that it is the address and the only reference for all researchers affiliated with the University of Jeddah. The university email will be the official means of communication between researchers and the Deanship.
- The need to provide the Deanship with everything it requests regarding the project, whether in the form of reports, presentation of the project, or participation in any of the activities upon request.
- The content and ideas of the research should not conflict with Islamic values, national orientations, and the University's vision. Researchers should not cooperate with entities or bodies that the Kingdom does not deal with in law, and the researcher bears responsibility for violating the law.
- All outputs of research projects, whether patents, primary products, applications, or others, are owned by the University of Jeddah, according to the intellectual property policy approved by the University.
- In the event of publication in Web of Science, the research output must be of Research Article type and the journal in which it is published must be classified in one of the three classifications: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), and Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI.)
- Researchers are committed to academic integrity and the ethics of scientific research, and the Principal Investigator bears full academic, legal and ethical responsibility for the published research.
- The researchers are committed to completing the project within the period agreed upon in the contract. In the event that this is violated (without prior approval from the Deanship after submitting justifications for the delay), the Deanship has the right to take the appropriate action in this regard.
- The budget includes researcher rewards and any other costs required to complete the research, provided that they do not violate applicable regulations.
- Researcher rewards are distributed in accordance with the Unified Research and Innovation Regulations and their implementing rules approved by the university.
- The responsibility for distributing research team rewards falls on the principal researcher, and the university bears no responsibility in the event of disagreement among team members.
- The Deanship has the right to update the regulations and programs as it deems appropriate in accordance with the University’s interest.
- The number of participants in the research from outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia should not exceed 50%.
